Introduction to Parent University

Parent University Programs for Parents Spring 2011 Schedule

Parent University has been offering FREE parenting classes since 1985.

These classes originated as our staff training in our schools and expanded to become "Parent University" when more parents than staff started showing up
for our extraordinary staff trainings.

Our Parent University classes are very powerful in creating new possibilities
for parents and families; not just more, better or different of the traditional parenting type class.

Our classes are fun and participatory and they are filled with useful distinctions, for example:

"Force is counterproductive with children; it will produce resistance or rebellion or covert behavior every time...."

"It is usually useful to know what you are dealing with in life, and we have found over the years that many parents feel lost when their children start to assert early independence and resist parental control. We think it is important to ask the most essential and elementary question almost no one ever asks about young children, in order to find a way to be most effective in helping them grow and learn what we have to teach them without opposition and resistance.

The question no one asks is: WHAT IS A CHILD? At Parent University, this is our first and, we think, most important distinction: We ask parents to consider the possibility that our children are ...FIRST AND FOREMOST, EMOTIONAL BEINGS, WITH A DEVELOPING RATIONAL POSSIBILTY, AND THAT IT IS PART OF OUR JOB AS PARENTS, TEACHERS AND CARETAKERS, TO HELP DEVELOP THEIR RATIONAL POSSIBILTY WHILE RESPECTING THEIR EMOTIONAL NATURE."

I am thrilled to invite you to Parent University!

Respectfully,
Philip Adams (pna38@yahoo.com)
President, Parent University
